Baer, internationally known orthopedic surgeon, died today of the effects of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Sunday at Rehoboth Beach, Del. He was 59 years old. Dr. Baer had been a member of the faculty of Johns Hopkins Medical School for 32 years and his name was connected with a number of medical discoveries. ‘The most recent was the result of his service in France as chief orthopedic consuitant of the American Expedition- ary Forces. He found that the grub of the blue bottle fly would clear up deep-seated infecticns of the bone that defled all other methods of treatment. Dr. Baer told of the discovery at a meeting of the Interstate Medical Asso- ciation at Detroit in 1929, after he had tested the effect of the grub for years. Mount Alto, Veterans’ Bureau hospital at Washin~t-n made a training center for the method. Recently wn: ... .nethod has been f;:ted in treating tuberculcsis of the ne.
