Noticing an automobile with but one headiight burning, Officer Embrey drew alongside in the police car which he was driving and called the motorist's attention to the traffic law violation. The patrolman was much sur- prised, however, when the motorist turned and replied, “Ycu've only got one light yourself.” A the officer’s proposal both he and t#: motorist went to & nearby garage and each purchased & head- light bulb. Stewart. 39, 900 block of New York avenue, Washington, was being held in the county jail toaay while po- lice continued their investigation of the circumstances surrounding the death of Hilleary Jackson, colored road house proprietor, of Woodyard, Md. Jackson, police say, was beaten severe- ly on the head with a shotgun during an argument with three white men at his road house Saturday. He was rushed to Casualty Hospital by County Police- man Frank Prince and died a few hours later According to Garrison, Stewart admits taking part in the fight, but claims self-defense, saying he grabbed the gun away from Jackson as the latter was DEFECTIVE LIGHTS CAUSE OF ARRESTS Are Fined in Falls Church During Drive. Walter Mitchell of Falls Church Satur- day night made a drive to correct defective lights on automobiles passing through that town. Eight motorists were arrested for driving with one light and fined $2.50 and costs of $4 by the Justice of the peace. Several minor accidents were re- ported over the week end. EMPORIA, Va, March 2—Edward Parker, 22, recelved head injuries and a broken leg when the small “parasol” monoplane, he was piloting crashed near Temple Alrport here yesterday after- noon. Spectators said that a wing seemed to crumple as the craft was heing brought out of a power dive and it slipped to the ground, being prac- tically demolished when it struck. Parker purchased his airplane in Chi- cago last Fall after completing a course of flight instruction and flew it to his home here.
