PROTEST ACTION ! OF TRADE BOARD Automotive Association Says Out-of-Town Talent Was Used at Dinner. Protesting that the Board of Trade does not practice what it preaches was made by the Washington Automotive Trade Association at a meeting last night at the Racquet Club. As a result of charges made by Ches- ter H. Warrington, director, that the “Buy in Washington” creed was over- looked by the *rads body when that association went ouv .. ¢he city to pro- vide entertainment talent for its re- cent Midwinter dinner, a letter was ordered to be written to the Board of secretary, expressing the opine lons of the local automobile dealers. Attendance Increase Noted. Mr. Warrington stated that more than 80 per cent of the trade body's entertainers had béen furnished from New York. He called to the attention of the automobile dealers that as chair- man of the Banquet Committee of the W. A, T. A. held in December he had been 100 per cent Washingtonian in providing talent. Fred L. Haller chairman of the Show Committee of the W. A. T. A., reported that the attendance this year was 11 r cent higher than in 1930 and Wash- ington was the only city on the Atlan- tic seaboard to &l an increase over last year. Robert J. Cottrell, executive of the Board of Trade, said today: “The facts actually are that the or- chestra employed was a local orchestra; that the soprano was a local singer; that the duo—Bill Raymond and Fred East—are local singers; that Miss Mil- dred Miller is also a local singer: that Miss Bobbie Dulin is a local dancer; that the Baltimore & Ohio Glee Club is as much local to Washington as anywhere, and is constantly used by local organi- zations; that the entire scenic effects, decorations, etc., were not only bought locally, but were designed and painted for the occasion by local people. Position Is Defended. “As for other acts in the dinner which supplemented the program, the board did no more than other organizations are doing, and as a matter of fact the board has presented practically all of the desirable local talent heretofore and did not want to be placed in the posi- tion of presenting entirely the same peo- ple on the program over and over again '“As Yor buying in Washington, th “As ‘for_buying as n, the Board of Trade is consistently adhering to this policy as is evidenced by the fact when it was reconstructing its new quarters at the cost of about $10,000 it turned down outside bidders who offered to do the work considerably cheaper in order that the entire equipment and ‘work should.be done by local people. All its supplies and its purchases through- out the year are confined to Washing- tonians.” TWO MISSING IN FIRE TROY, New York February 10 (#).— A policeman was injured and two per- sons were missing in a fire which started after an explosion in a building in the business section here last night, {%emm estimated the damage at $75,- Frank Lee, 50, and Marjon Rock, 52, huue:.ed !gm bm;;w been in their apart- ments w] losion IS 1ot bo dound, e Patrolman Willlam E. Congdon & Co. maintained offices in Baltimore and Richmond. Bail Too High. Unable to furnish $40,000 bail since extradition from Oklahoma, where he also was indicted, Easterday was held in custody. He was once known as “the boy wizard of Wall Street.” Persons named as victims of Easter- day and his associates were James B. Colbert, Fredericksburg, Va.; H. G. Huttie, Blackville, S. Congdon & Co.,” mentioned in the New York dis- patch, sprung up in Washington last Summer while Easterday was at liberty on bond following his arrest here in connection with a raid engineered by the Post Office Department on & con- cern_known variously as De Wolfe- Stewart & Co, and Wolfe & Co. The Con concern, however, was short lived, Post Office Department proceedings, charging use of the malils to defraud, halting its activities before any business actually had been trans- acted at the New York avenue office, according to the records of the Better Business Bureau. The bureau files show that & man calling himself “L. A. Congdon” reg- istered at a local hotel and sent out securities literature, but there was nothing to indicate any sales. Easterday's reputed connection with the concern was not known locally at the time it was broken up. Acidity Puts More Persons There's & skulking figure abroad to- day that lays more men low than all the guns of gangdom! It's the insidi- ous demon of ACIDITY! More sin- ister than barking guns, it lays hold of persons with a stealthy hend and often accomplishes untold ruin before it is noticed. Many a run-down condition, many a case of “nerves,” melanchol d mental depression is but a case of acidity. For when, as a result of our unnatural living habits, the stomach secretes too much acid, it does many things to us. It causes acid-indiges- tion, with sour, gassy fullness, pain- iul stomach distention, heartburn and nausea—a condition which in time may result in an attack of acute indigestion. The acid sets up fermentation and putrefaction in the intestines. This breeds poisons which permeate the whole system. The poisons sap strength and vitality, make us feel tired all the time, and blue and discouraged. Al they rag our nerves to the point where we can't sleep at night, exhausted as we may be. e modern and true way to cor- rect acidity is by the release of active oxygen . within the intestinal tract. This is now accomplished by an amaz- ing and harmless white tablet devel- oped in Germany by the world's fore- nd | or any other good druggist. Take two “On the Spot” most pharmaceutical house. Magnesia Oxides, upon contact with the gastric Jjuice, generate nascent or active oxy- gen. The live oxygen does the three things necessary to correct acidity in the right way. It stimulates the alkaline gastric mucus, which keeps the acld in check. It corrects fermentation and putrefaction in the gastro-intestinal canal. It stimulates peristalsis or the natural. movement of the bowels. All three effects are necessary to the true correctness of acidity and only Mag- nesia Oxids supply them, because it is the only Magnesia product known to science that, when taken internally, re- leases oxygen to the system. Make This Acidity Test! To see just how “acid” you are, make this test. Get a package of Mag- nesia Oxolds from Peoples Drug Stores after each meal and see how much better you feel, how much more soundly you sleep and how much more energy you have. If, after taking the contents of one bottle, the results don't more than amaze you, return the bottle to the druggist and he will refund your money promptly and in full.—Adver- tisement.
