BUILDING INDUSTRY INCREASE FORESEEN Standard Statistics Says Construction of Homes Now on Upgrade. (BY the Associated Press. NEW YORK, January 30.—Residen- tial building, which has been in the doldrums for a ‘long period, is found by Standard Statistics Co. to be show- ing signs of strength, particularly in construction of single and two family houses and subdivision developments. a survey published today the organization expresses an opinion that the next few months wlil witness con- siderable stabilization in contracts for these types of housing. Commenting on the outlook for build- ing as a whole, the survey asserts that it is probable that a period of relative stability must first be established before the start of a real recovery can be wit- mnessed. It is the widely-held opinion that the revival is contingent in the first instance on absorption of the over- supply of housing and business space. In other divisions of the building in- try the company says near-term developments of public works and utili- ties likely will continue on a plane moderately below the peak levels of a ESTATE. Harmony of action between archi- tects and engineers in urging the en- actment of model laws is advocated in the report of a joint committee repre- senting the American Institute of Archi- tects, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Soclety of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Electrical Enginecrs. The joint committee was appointed with the double purpose of premoting sound legislation for better and safer buudln{ to safeguard the public and eliminating differences which had aris:n between the architectural and engi- neering .professions over the qualifica- tions necessary for the filing of build- ing plans.
