Mrs, Bestie Baker Burchard, long active in leading women's organizations here, died in Emergency Hospital yes- terday following an operation on De- cember 18. Active in the work of the American Association of University Women, Mrs. Burchard had recently completed two terms as- chairman of its House Com- mittee. She also was a leading mem- ber of the Twentieth Century Club, serving as_a member of its Member- ship and Hospitality Committees. addition Mrs. Surchand was & member of the Eistophos Science Club and of the Bannockburn Golf Club, where she had participated in a num- ber of the women's tournaments. She was the author of many short stories and articles relating to travel: Born at Ransomville, N. Y., in 1877, Mrs. Burchard spent most of her girl- hood at Carthage, Mo. She was grad- uated from Northwestern University with a bachelor of arts degree in 1900 and subsequently in 1910 recelved & master of arts degree at the Univer- sity of Colorado, She married Ernest F. Burchard of this city in June, 1910, and with him traveled extensively in the Orient and South America. She is survived by her husband and three brothers, Clyde Baker of Purcell, Mo.; H. Durand Baker of St. Louls, and Wesley W. Baker of Miami, Fla. Funeral zorvices will be conducted at the residence, 3403 Lowell street, Cleve- land Park, tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. E. S. Cralg, 58 years old, former general purchasing agent of the Southern Rallway, who died at his home, 3009 Thirty-fourth street, Monday after a long iliness, were conducted at the residence today at 11 o'clock. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Craig retired from his position with the Southern Railway a year ago, due to falling health, after having served as general purchasing agent since 1914. He had been employed by the rallroad many years.
