Merritt, operating as Groover, Christie & Merritt, at 1835 I street. ‘The plaintiff, through Attorneys Hawken and Havell, tells the court she went to the defendants on May 13, 1929, and that they agreed to give her proper dosages of X-ray current. He, however, was just in a hurry to sce mumng to the wax figures of the ent's wives, displayed in the cos- tumes. of their day. The doorman, being an old-timer and used to such explosions, soon in- formed the young man that the like- ness of Mrs. Hoover had not yet been edded to the collection. Such questions as these, guards at the doors of the various Smithsonian nstityte buildings explain, go to make the daily routine. Of the hundreds of people who visit the national museums, the majority of men are seek- g Lindbergh's plane, while the in- terest of the women is divided between e plane and the Presidents’ wives' oostumes. ANNAFOLIS, September 27.—The | right of a large bloc of citizens em- | ployed or engaged in business or pro- {fessions in the District of Columbia, |but wha have, to a greater or:less | extent, acquired a domicile in Anne Arundel County, will be tested by 1% Novemier, Active workers of the Republican party of the county are expected to take the initiative in most cases, but 'tnhre fre others, not classed as partisans |at all, | legal decision as to just what justifies | registration . officers in accepting the plicant whose connections are both the District and the county. The question is regarded as highls | important in view of the greatly in: | creasing number of persons who are | establishing part-of-the-year homes in | this part of the State.. Many belieye that if all of those who sperd a limitéd portion of the year here are allowed with |to vote, they will exercise an undue in- | fluence on the government of the county. 800 to 1,000 Ex-Residents. | _The number of former residents of | the District who have recently secured county registration is estimated to be from 800 to 1,000. Of course, it is admitted that some of these, living a large part of the time in this county, have a right to registration, On the other hand, scme claim that a very large proportion have only a slight connec- tion with this county. The persons who are the subject of this controversy have their local resi- dences largely in two sections of the county, the part bordering on the Chesapeake Bay and such tributaries as Bay, which lie trict and some developments along the Severn River, such as Herald Har« bor and Epping Forest. It is admitted that most of those who have registered either own a home~of some character | in the county or are members of fam- illes which éwn such homes. This, however, it is claimed, has only a minor connection with the right to register and vote, which is not based upon own- ership of property. One prominent attorney of Annapolis pointed out that the Court of App:als of the State had gone very far to uphold the right of those who had voting resi- dences in the State to retain such resi- dences even if called away for long or indefinite periods, but that rights to acquire a voting, residence was an en- tirely different thing. | Voting Residenee Issue. There seems to be no question, it was said, that a resident of another State or the District of Columbia could acquire a voting tesidence in this State if it could be shown that he actually lived here half of th: time. The claim is, | however, that in most cases these people do not live here more than a few months at most and that some only spend nights in this county over a limited period during tie year. For these reasons, many residents of the county whose interest in the mat- ter is by no means partisan are anxious for a judical decision as to just what kind or quantity of residence here con- stitutes a right to register and vote. Active Republicans of the county make no secret of the fact that they are taking steps to develop the information east of the Dis- by | upon which the effort to strike many names from the registration list will be made. It is also known that they are being assisted by a number of Demo- crats not allied with the dominant fac- tion in this State and none too friendly to the candidacy of Gov. Ritchie. The matter has gone far enough to secure the assistance of the State Re- publican officials, and investigators un- der the direction of the State Ceneral Committee of that party are now gather- ing evidence in the various districts of the county and will make the facts that they develop the b'l‘:l! t17|l. glelr efforts to urge the registration . & Local Republicans state that their in- formation is that nearly all of those who registered did so at the suggestion of Demoeratic politicians, and they are, therefore, expected to vote with that party. This group, it is said, might easily change the result in the county. Day Set for. Objections. ber 7, is the day set for the filing of all objections to names on the registra- tion lists, On that day they will be filed with the officers of registration in the different precincts, and these offi- cers will either strike off the names or_decide that they should remain. Upon the decision of the registration officers an appeal can be taken either way. If they strike off the name of any voter, he can appeal to the court, and those making the protest can do the same if the registers fail to strike off the names. The court, sitting at Annapolis, hears these appeals promptly and will do so in all cases which may arise. Democratic politicians are taking the matter calmly and profess to believe that there was nothing wrong with the recent registration and thltu Xeva it ml{i o 3 Bed Rooms, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Recep- tion Room and 2 Baths; Electric Refrigeration. Mr. Revall is at present | clerk of the Circult Court and ‘s ai | candidate for re-election. Tradition- | |ally, this office carries important po- |sition in the party with it. Mr. Revall said he is sure the offi- | cials of registration are honest and | competent and did not register any ap- plicants unless they were qualified. He said further that he did not believe that any action could be taken which will ecliminate any large number of voters. As for the former District residents who have made a connection with Anne | Arundel County, they are prepared to make a hard fight to have their names retained in the registration lists. Not able to vote in the District, they value their right to vote in this county 'y highly. These people also urge strongly that most of them are taxpayers in Maryland and Anne Arundel County and that they are deeply interested in the 5\1\'ernment of these units and should have something to say about it.
