' NEW PASTOR LISTED 10 ASSUME DUTIES Dr. Carl C. Rasmussen Willj Occupy Luther Place Church Pulpit Tomorrow. Dr. Carl C. Rasmussen will assume the pastorate of the Luther Place Me- morial Church, at Thomas circle, tomor- row, preaching at 11 am. and 8 pm. ‘The congregation has purchased the house at 1441 Kennedy street for a parsonage, and he will move into it next week. Dr. Rasmussen comes to the local church from Harrisburg, Pa., where he has been pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah for eight years. He was graduated with first honors both in his prep school and at Pennsylvania College and received high honors in| his theological seminary course. Later he did graduate work at Columbia Uni- versity, majoring in religious education. ‘When called to the Luther Place Memorial pulpit he was president of the East Pennsylvania Synod of the United Lutheran Church and also president of the Pennsylvania State Sabbath School Association. The congregation at Luther Place has planned an enlarged program of activi- ties under the pastorate of Dr. Ras- mussen. It has organized a committee of 50 on personal evangelism, through which some 30 individuals have signi- fied their intention of becoming mem- bers of the congregation in addition to the 46 who united with the church dur- ing and immediately following the Lenten period. Luther Place is one of the historic Lutheran congregations of the country. It was organized by the late Dr. J. G. Butler, who was for 36 years its pastor. During his pastorate ‘Dr. Butler served as chaplain of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, the only min- ister in the history of the Congress to have been elected to serve both houses of the National Legislature. The church was built as a memorial to peace, through funds collected all over the United States. It contains pews that were made memorials to Gen. Grant and Gen. Lee. SCHOOL WILL OPEN| Vacation-Time Leaders Are Ex- pected to Enter Many Courses. A standard teacher training school will convene next Wednesday evening in the Calvary Baptist Church under the auspices of the Washington Federa- tion of Churches. The school is be- ing conducted in the interests of train- ing for vacation school teachers and principals. It will continue from 7:30 to 9:30 o'clock each evening for six sessions. The courses to be given are as follows: Material and methods for the junior department, taught by Miss Bess C. Miles, director of religious edu- cation in Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church; materials and methods for the primary department, taught by Mrs. Rossell B. Mitchell of the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church; training in wor- ship, by Miss Mabel N. Thurston of the | Church of the Covenant, and adminis- tration of a vacation church school, by Rev. E. O. Clark, director of this work for the federation. A unit of credit under the authority of the International Council of Reli- glous Education of Chicago will be given to all who satisfactorily complete a course. Burke to Preach Sermon in Tribute to the Blessed Virgin. ‘The Sodality Union of Washington will hold its twenty-fifth semi-annual demonstration in honor of the Blessed Virgin tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Catholic University. Rt. Rev. Thomas J. Shahan, former rector of the university, will preside in the sanctuary and pontificate at the solemn benediction of the most blessed sacra- ment. He will be assisted by Rt. Rev. Mgr. Bernard A. McKenna, as deacon, and Rev. Herbert J. Parker as sub- deacon. This will be the first occasion on which Rt. Rev. Mgr.
