Dr. Albert Joseph McCartney, pas- tor of the First Presbyterian Church of | Santa Monica, Cali who will suc- ceed Dr. Charles Wood as pastor of the Church of the Covenant, will assume his dutles early in January. Dr. Wood resigned March 31, 1928, after a pas- torate of 20 years, with this congre- tion. ! ‘A Sacrament of Sacrifice” will be the subject on which Rev. John D. Gregory will speak at the Church of the Covenant tomorrow morning. All departments of the Sunday School will be open at 9:45 o'clock, and the kinder- garten will care for small children while parents attend the church serv- ice at 11. ' Coleman Jennings will talk informally at the Christian Endeavor meeting at 7 o'clock on “An Adventure in Service.” ‘This meeting and the tea and social at 6:30 o'clock will be held in the church house, 1229 Connecticut avenue, around the open fire. The League of the Covenant will meet Wednesday at 3 o'clock, with Mrs. F. Thurs- ton and Rev. John D. Gregory. ALBRIGHT MEMORIAL TO HAVE ANNIVERSARY Dedication Two Years Ago Church School to Be Celebrated. The second aniversary of the dedica- tion of the Albright Memorial Church school building will be celebrated at all the services of the church tomorrow. There wil be a general assembly of the church school at 9:45 o'clock. At 11 o'clock the anniversary services with a sermon by the minister, Rev. George E. Schnabel, will take place. ‘The Christian Endeavor will meet at 6:30 pm. with a vesper tea. At 8 o'clock the closing anniversary service will be conducted by Mr. Schnabel. The sermon _subject will be “The Strength of the Church in a Modern World Is a Redeeming Savior.” The monthly workers’ supper and conference will be held Thursday at 6:15 o'clock. This will be followed by committee meetings and the devotional program at 7:30 o'clock. Phelps Hand Opens Standard Training School at Foundry M. E. Church. Dr. J. Phelps Hand. district super- | intendent of the Washington district of the Methodist Episcopal Church, has inaugurated a new movement in re- ligious education in Washington with the opening of the Washington District Standard Training School at the Foundry M. E. Church, November 6-13, | inclusive. This course will be given | especially for pastors, general super- intendents and other religious educa- tors. Rev. J. C. Millian will be the; dean, with a corps of instructors. Dr. Walter Scott Athearn is the most widely known of the faculty. He graduated from the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago, taking his graduate work at the latter institu- tion. He has had long experience as teacher, dean and lecturer in general education, and especially in religious education. He will be instructor in the Training School at two sessions for each of five days and will deliver in addition a series of addresses for the benefit of the entire school. Dr. Henry Reeves Calkins, another instructor, has spent some years in India as a missionary, and is an author of a number of books. The work in the New Testament will be under the instruction of Dr. Arthur Jennings Jackson, professor of Bible and head of the department of religion of the College of Liberal Arts at the American University. The primary department administrs tion is in charge of Mrs. C. A. Lind: superintendent of the primary depart- ment of the Foundry M. E. Church. The same church furnishes ‘another able teacher in Mrs. Ada W. Smith, super- intendent of the junior department, Foundry Church. Miss Bess C. Miles, director of re- ligious education of the Calvary M. E. Church, Washington, has charge of young people’s materials and methods.
