BY GEORGE PORTER. Staft Correspondent of The Star. BRENTWOOD, Md., November 1.— | Anticipating fequests from practically all of the property owners in block 13 of Brentwood, Md., for reclassification of their lots from residential to com- mercial, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, of its own initiative last night recommended that the Prince Georgss County Com- missioners change the zoning of the entire block. Block 13, according to Irving C. Root, chief engineer of the commission, is bounded by Holliday, Johns, William and Highland streets, the latter a closed thoroughfare. The extension of Rhode Island avenue, now being rushed to completion, will cut through the center of the block, which is one reason why the park commission is said to feel that the block should be zoned commercial. Extend Commercial Zone. Across Johns street, on the east side, is an industrial area, and on the west side a commercial zone, so that in mak- ing their recommendation the park com- mission is merely extending the com- mercial zone one more block. There are several residences on Holliday street, but it is believed the owners will realize a greater value from their property if it | is zoned commercial. Should the owners entertain contrary | views they will be given an oppol vty to express them at a public hearing to be conducted by the county commis- sioners on a date not yet designated. Last night's action was taken by the commission after the applications of two property owners in block 13 for reclassification from residential to ‘:om- mercial were recommended for approval. The applications were filed by J. Moses Edlavitch for lots 1 and 2 and by Ed- ward N. Lightbown for lots 16 and 17. To Study Application. An application of J. Albert Miller for reclassification of land at Riggs and Eureka roads, in Chillum district, was | referred to the Prince Georges County | members of the commission for study and report later. Miller plans to build a filling station and asked that the propen{ be zoned commercial, A petition signed by about 25 resi- dents of Thirty-seventh, -eighth and Thirty-ninth. streets, Maount Rainfer, claiming the operation of a foundry or blast furnace at Thirtys, eighth street and Valley avenue con- stituted @ nuisance and should be abated, also was referred to the Prince Georges County members for investiga- tion. Action on a petition of -several. resi- dents of the vicinity, asking the open- ing of Elm street, Bethesda, to Wisco) sin avenue, also was deferred pending a study of the situation by members of the commission, the county commis- sioners and William G. An application for reclassification of property on Georgia avenue, Woodside, Md., filed by E. C. Thos was - approved on the ground that additional commercial zone in that section was undesirable at present. Charles W. Balenger asked the com- mission to reconsider- its disapproval of his request to build a store at Glen Echo, and this matter was referred to the Montgomery County members of the commission for consideration.
