DR. OTTOBRASKAMP INLOCAL PULPIT: | Recent Missionary Placed in| Charge of Northminster Preshyterian Chapel. Dr. Otto Braskamp has been apooint- | ed by the Washington City Presbytery | as minister in charge of the Northmin- | ster Chapel at Alaska zvenue and Kal- | ia rose. 7 Braskamp is a brother of | Rev. Bernard Braskamp, pestor of Gunton-Temple Memorial Presbyterian Church, and moderator of the Presby- tery. He graduated from Grinnell College | in 1907 with degree of Bachelor of Arts. | Then took three years of theological training at Princeton Seminary, grad- uating in 1910. While at Princeton he took post-graduate work in the philo- uating in 1910. While at Princeton | he took post-graduate work in the | philosophical department of Princeton | University, receiving the degree of | Master of Arts. Upon graduation in 1911 he went to China as a mis- slonary under the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. While at home last year on furlough he took special studies-at Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University of New York, receiving the degree of Bachelor of Di- vinity. Last June he was honored by the College of Emporia, Kans., with the degree of Doctor of Divinity. Dr. Braskamp was married September 14 to Miss Frances Helen Bailey, daugh- ter of Rev. Dr. Arthur Bailey, pastor of | the First Presbyterian Clhurch of Vir- ginia. Minn. Mrs. Braskamp received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Macalester College of St. Paul in 1925. In the Fall of 1927 she entered Colum- bin University of New York as a fellow- ship student under the Board of Na- tional Missions of the Presbyterian Church. While at Columbia she majored in religious education for which she re- ceived her Master of Arts degree in June, 1929, Dr. Braskamp will occupy the pulpit of the Northminster Chapel tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. There will be no evening service, but at 7 o'clock there will be a young people’s rally, at which Dr. and Mrs. anklmp will speak. One of Oldest Churches. ‘The present church, which was built in 1854, is one of Washington's oldest churches. The list of original sub- scribers includes the name of Franklin esident of the United Pierce, then Pr States. Gen. U. 8. Grant was a fre- quent worshiper. Jefferson Davis, who soon after the completion of the church became President of the Confederacy, was a contributor. Upon completion of the new edifice the old church will be sold. The new structure will be perpendicular English gothic in architecture with variations from the traditional practice. The treatment of the interior will blend with the surrounding community. Con- centration of ornament is made on the led windows and the main en- trance. The supporting walls will be built of local stone finished with a hammered surface and the roof will be of slate, finiched with hll'! copper cornice and gutters. The yard space is especially well treated, beln[ inclosed by a low wall capped with a wrought- fron fence. This will be entered through a wmufht-lron gate under a stone arch. Walks will be of flagstone, 1aid in geometric patterns, Seats for 500 Persons. ‘The church auditorium will be a room ! large enough to seat 500 persons. It is of the clearstory long-axiz type, with a central aisle Jeading to a balanced sanctuary. The interior will be well lighted from large tracerized windows on each side and a window at me rear.
