ENGLSHLUTHERAN PASTOR RESIOS Rev. John T. Huddle Had Served St. Paul’s Church 25 Years. Rev. John T. Huddle, pastor of St. Paul's English Lutheran Church for 25 years, has resigned on account of phy- slcal disability, his resignation having @ohe into effect last Sunday. After Graduating at Roanoke College and the Gettysburg Theological Sem- Dr. Huddle served for several as associate pastor with Dr. L. E. rt Trinity Lutheran Church, Philadelphia. He was St. Paul's, Washington, in 1904, which congregation he has served since that date. Two years ago St. Pauls merged with Epiphany and Dr. W. C. Waltemyer, pastor of the latter congregation, be- came associate pastor of St. Paul's. Plans have been made for the sale of the two properties and the erection of a new church in Chevy Chase on & lot_already gun:hnsrd. Recently Dr. Waltemyer was called to Gettysburg College as a professor of philosophy. It being physically im- possible for Dr. Huddle to care for the combined congregations and bear the brunt in the erection of the new church, he resigned also, and at the Congrega- tional meeting, which accepted his resignation, was made pastor ermeritus. During his pastorate 384 children by infant baptism and 821 adults by con- firmation, certificate and profession of faith were added to the membership. Dr. Huddle will continue to live in Washington and do supply work and render any other service that his strength will allow. ALBRIGHT CHURCH . RESUMES ACTIVITIES Rally Day Will Be Observed Sep- tember 29, With Parade Preceding Day. Albright Memorial Evangelical Church, Fourth and Rittenhouse streets, re- sumes all activities next week. At the morning service tomorrow Rev. George Schnabel, the minister, will preach on “The Life-giving Convictions of Dr. ©Ozora Davis.” The Women's Missionary Society will meet Monday evening at the home of Mrs. G. P. Carter, 6305 Third street. Miss Mabel Thurston will be the speaker. Rally day will be observed September 29. On the afternoon of September 28 the Men's Ciub will sponsor “A Chil- dren’s Rally Day Parade.” There will be an express wagon division and a doll carriage division, with prizes for the winners in each class. Elwood Graham is chairman of the parade committee, and he is assisted by John Brice, Em- mitte Jester, Edwin Mashmeyer. . LAYMEN’S SERVICE BODY PLANNING PILGRIMAGE Will Visit Historic Church in Maryland September 22 and Hold Religious Conference. The Laymen’s Service Association of the Diocese of Washington will make its Fall pilgrimage September 22 to historic Trinity Church, Hughesville, Charles County, Md., where an all-day service and a series of religious cen- ferences will be held, conducted by the men of the association. Five hun- .dred men of the Washington laymen group will be joined by the combined churches of Trinity parish. This pilgrimage will be known as the Jewell pilgrimage, in memory of the late commander, Charles Theodore Jewell, a former president and active member of the Laymen Service Asso- ciation, and who for many years was a member of St. Margaret’s Church of this city and superintendent of its Sunday school. FRATERNAL GROUP TO HEAR CHAPLAIN Eastern Star Members to Be Guests at Temple Heights Today. ‘The Association of Worthy Matrons and Patrons of 1929 of the Order of the Eastern Star are the special guests at the open-air religious services at Temple Heights tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock. The services, under the di- rection of the grand chaplain, Rev. John C. Palmer of the Grand Lodge, will be addressed by Rev. George L. Fal pastor of Cleveland Park Congregational Church, and the music is under the direction of J. Walter Humphrey. ‘There are 44 chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star in the city and all of the officers of each of these chapters, together with all members of the order, with their families, are urged by the grand matron, Mrs. Pearl Watt Gibb, and the grand patron, John Clagett Proctor, to attend this service, which will be of particular interest to them. The Grand Lodge committee has arranged for busses to bring the mem- bers at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home, together with the children at the Home, to this service, and the com- mittee desires to have it stated also that all members of the Masonic Fra- ternity, with their families, as well as the public, are invited. Shrine day will be observed Septem- ber 22 at Temple Heights, and the offi- cers and members of Almas Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S, with their families, are to be the special guests.
