NEW YORK, July 17.—Capt. Ross @. Hoyt of the Army Air Corps tactics group at Langley Pield, Va., announced Iast night he planned to take off from Mitchell Field Friday, weather permit- ting, in an attempt to fly to Nome, Alaska, and back within three days. The distance is 8460 miles, and to ‘l‘ accomplish his feat Capt. Hoyt would have to average 140 miles an hour. The project is sponsored by the War De- partment. His schedule calls for a atart at 2:30 pm., if weather permits, with his first &top at 10 o'clock in Minneapolis, 1,030 miles away. He expects to refuel in an hour and fly 1.100 miles to Edmonton, Alberta, arriving at 7 o'clock Saturday morning. With a fresh fucl supply. he plans to eontinue an hour later to White Horse, . Yukon, another 1.100-mile leg. which he hopes to finish at 4 o'clock the same afternoon. From there two 500-mile jumps are scheduled tn land him in Nome at 1:20 a.m. Sunday. Capt. Hoyt will stop in Nome hours and then start back over the same route. He expects to arrive ba at Mitchel Field at 6 o'clock Monday morning. Hovt was to have made the round-trip coast-to-coast flight. but abandoned the plan when Capt. Prank M. Hawks made his record-breaking flight recently.
