10 BAPTIST CHURCHES HOLD MEET IN MAY Three Sessions Will Be Held | Here in Semi-Annual Gathering. The cemi-annual meeting of the Co- lumbia Association.of Baptist Churches Wwill be held in the Metropolitan Baptist Church May 3. E. H. De Groot, mod- erator of the association, will preside. There will be three sessions, begin- ning at 10 a.m.. and between the after- noon and night sessions a reception will be held and dinner will be served by the women of the church. The speakers will be furnished by the Northern and Southern Baptist Con- ventions, most of them being mission- aries at home on furlough and repre- senting different countries. . China will be represented by Rev. Charles G. McDaniel and Rev. A. W. Ayers and Dana Murphy Albaugh will représent the Belgian Kongo. Dr. G. Clifford Cress, who has been a mis- sionary in Africa and also on the frontiers of the United States, will speak. In additiop to the missionaries who will be present, A. F. Willlams of Chi- cago, Ill, and Dr. Solon B. Cousins of Richmond. Va, will also make ad- dresses. Rev. John Compton Ball, pastor of the church, is in charge of the program. ST. THOMAS' CHURCH PLANS MANY EVENTS| Confirmation of Class Is Scheduled for May; Give Card Party on Monday. Dr. C. Ernest Smith, rector of St. ‘Thomas’ Church, near Dupont Circle, will preach tomorrow on the subject, “When Christ Is Ashamed of a Man.” Other appointments Sunday will be holy eucharist, 8 a.m.; Sunday School, 9:30; and Bible class for adults, con- ducted by Dr. William S. Bishop, at 9:45 am. A supplementary number of candi- dates for confirmation is being pre- pared. The class will be presented some time next month. Members of the Rector’s Aid Society ‘will hold a card party at the New Wil- lard Hotel Monday. The proceeds will be devoted to fulfilling the pledge given by the society for a portion of the church's debt. Mrs. Finley, in charge, is being supported by Mrs. Raymond Carter, Mrs. P. B. Penlon and Mrs. W. C. Prentiss and others. The society is gathering rummage for a sale in the early Fall. The Woman's Auxiliary is planning Jor a missionary Sunday in the ‘when a special preacher will deliver the sermon and make an appeal, the results of which will be devoted to the payment of the church's pledge toward the department of missions of the Na- tional Church. There will be a meeting Monday at 7:30 pm. in St. Thomas' Hall, of the Sundly School teachers to arrange for the annual picnic for the children and as many of the parents and friends as choose to accompany them; also to make plans for the school commence- ment. e MODERNISM SERMONS SERIES WILL BE GIVEN At Fourth Presbyterian Church, ‘Thirteenth and Fairmont streets, Rev. Jumes H. Miers will preach a series of sermons on modernism for five con-' secutive Sundays. At the morning service tomorrow the subject is "Mod- ernism and the New Testament,” and at 8 o'clock “The Relation of Confes- sion to Salvation.” The Woman's Missionary Society will meet in the Adult Bible Class room Wednesday at 11 o'clock.
