CHURCH TO OCCUPY NEW AUDITORIUM i | New Edifice Provides Seating | Capacity for More Than 1,000 Persons. The Fourth Church of Christ, Sei- entist, Sixteenth, Oak and Meridian streets, wili occupy the auditorium of | its new edifice for the first time to- morrow. The exterior of the structure is fin- ished in variegated Indiana limestone. Howard L. Cheney of Chicago is the! architect and the general contractor is the N. P. Severin Co., also of Chicago. The building, situated well back from Sixteenth street, is approached by a broad flight of granite steps which lead to the main entrance through a curved portico supported by four large fluted Sreek doric columns. The entrance portico is balanced along the Meridian streets facades by similar curv- each supported by four en- gaged columns, The central portion of the building is carried in two stepbacks and houses the broad, coffered dome which forms the main feature of the auditorium. Besides the main auditorium seating more than a thousand persons and the Sunday school, with a capacity for 700 | pupils, the church contains a large en- trance foyer which extends below the balcony portion of the building. Coat- room lobbies and coatrooms are pro- vided off the foyer on the auditorfum floor level. Rooms for the readers, so- lofst and organist are placed behind | the reader’s platform. The board of | trustees will have a suite of rooms, in- | cluding an ofiice. There also will be ushers’ rooms and committee rooms, while provision has been made in the auditorium for a very fine pipe organ. The church is the fourth established in Washington as an authorized branch of the mother church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass. Its charter members came from First Church of Christ, Scientist, Columbia road and Euclid street, in 1919, to meet a need in that section of the city for another church. Services were held in the Arcade, Fourteenth and Park road, for seven years and then in the Masonic audi- torjum in Brightwood. The land for the new edifice was purchased in 1920, the corner stone laid in February, 1928, and the Sunday school room occupied by the congregation temporarily for church services since last September. The church maintains a reading room in the Tivoli Building, Fourteenth street and Park road. PLANS TWO SERMONS. Dr. B. H. Melton Will Preach on “Jesus and the Family.” Dr. B. H.
