A. P. MONTAGUE SUCCUMBS IN FLORIDA ! Former Dean of Columbian Uni- versity Was Widely Known as Educator. Dr. Andrew Philip Montague, vice president of Mercer University, Macon, Ga., who was dean of the old Columbian University, now George Washington University, from 1895 to 1897, died in { Panama City, Fla., Monday, according to word received here. He had gone to Florida for a rest. Dr. Montague, who was 74 years old, was a native of Essex County, Va. He was graduated from the University of Virginia in 1875 and received his A. M. degree from the old Columbian Uni- versity in 1879, and an LL. D. from Richmond College, 1896. He taught at the old Columbian University for a number of years prior to becoming dean there. w1dely known as an educator, Dr. Montague also had been the head of several other educational institutions. He was president of Furman Universi- ty from 1897 to 1902, of Howard Col- lege in Alabama from 1902 to 1912 and president of Columbia College, Lake City, Fla, from 1012 to 1919.
