Talks Victim of Ac- cidental Death While Asleep cn Couch. Made drowsy by the fumes of escap- ing gas in the kitchen of her home at 82 U street, yesterday, Mrs. Sallie E. ‘Talks, 71 years old, went into the din- ing room, lay down on a couch and went to sleep. When her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank W. Dowling, jr., with whom she lived, re- turned home from work in the evening she had been dead about four hours. She had been ironing in the after- noon with a flat iron heated by gas and in some way the flame from the gas burner of the stove became-extinguished. She apparently finished her ironing, | however, and put away the iron before ! lying down. Mr. Dowling summoned the Emerg- ency Hospital ambulance and the fire department rescue squad. Dr. I Rut- koski of the hospital staff and the fire- men _attempted unsuccessfully to re vive her. Coroner J. Ramsey Nevitt i sued a certificate of accidental death. Mrs. Talks was a native of Leesburg, Va., but had been a resident of Wash- ington for many years. She was the widow of Arthur T. Talks. The oniy near relative surviving her is Mrs. Dowling. The funeral is to be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the U street ad- dress. Rev. R. Y. Nicholson will offi- ciate and the burial is to be in Glen- wood cemetery. WRECK ENDS CHASE; TWO MEN ARRESTED Reckless Driving and Possession and Transportation of Liguor Charged by Police. Two men in a car gave police a chase at a 50-mile-an-hour clip early this morning, cracked up against the| curb at First and Q stréets and were | arrested there, and their car, alleged 1o have contained 432 quarts of corn | whisky, seized. 1 The men. who police say jumped | from the damaged machine and a'_-} tempted to flee, were Frank Dswryi Feeney, 28 vears old, and Joseph F.| Speck, 25 vears old, both of the 2700 block Fourteenth street, Charges of | reckless drivinz and illegal possession | 2nd transportation of liquor were placed | against Feeney and the possession and transportation charges were placed against Speck. | Sergt. George M. Little and his liquor squad started the chase at Beventh and Monroe streets at about 2:30 o'clock. Neither of the pursued men was hurt in the crash.
