SPEARE. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, July 30.—With no ad- | vance in money rates today, in spite ! of the larger month-end requirements, there was slightly less pressure on the { bond market and in speculative issues | there were a number of good gains. The high-grade list, however, was soft. New low prices for the year were reached in Union Pacific and Northern Pacific 4s. Atchison and Baltimore & | Ohio 4s about duplicated their previous !lows. Relative to the decline that oc- curred last week there was little im- provement in U. S. Government issues. Better Utilities Steady. The better grades of public utilities | were quoted at approximately the prices at_which they closed on Saturday. The most active and strongest of the industrials were the Dodge 6s, which | advanced about 2 points on intima- | {tions that the Chrysler-Dodge merger | iwuuld go through. Andes Copper 7s | were up a point, but Anaconda Copper | 7s were off about as much. For the | first time in their history North Amer- ican Cement 6'2s went under 80. Wal- | worth 6s broke 2 points and then ral- |lied. Cuban Cane Sugar, 85 sagged 4 | | points to about 79 | Movements in the junior rail lis | were small and irregular. The St. Paul | adjustments advanced !> and then met profit-taking. Frisco 4lis were frac- | tionally better, as were Southern Rail- way 4s. The Seaboard issues lagged behind the market. . Quite heavy selling | | has occurred in the Colombia Mortgage iBank 7Ts and in other South and Cen- tral American issues that were brought | out late last year and this Spring. | There is also a poor market for some of | the smaller Central European govern- { ment and corporation bonds. | Today's market for foreign issues was | {quiet. There was scarcely an issue in | which a change of as much as half a | point occurred. The week produced nothing in the way of new financing.
