! HADULAVINVORED TOMAT NPT Miss Miller’s Plans to Wed Former Maharajah Proceeds Despite Objections. Br the Associated Press. LONDON, March 13.—In an atmos- phere of uncertainty as to whether her conversion to Hinduism would be legal, Miss Nancy Ann Miller of Seattle to- | day continued preparations to accept religion of her future husband in India. The conversion was nec- 0 that she might wed Tukoji former Maharajah of Indore, on Saturday. A dispatch to the Daily Mail from Bombay. India. said that an injunction had bsen granted restraining completion of the initiation ccremonies. Miss Mile ler. however, was described as perfectly composed in the face of this and con- tinued to make ready for the initia- tion. She shook hands cordially with the reception committee which greeted her at Nasik and which included the Hindu women who took charge of her for the “shuddi” or purification rites. Would Not Bar Final Rites. At Nasik it was stated the injunction had been asked to restrain Jagadguru Shankarcharva, head of the Orthodox Hindus, from performing the ceremony. The magistrate, however. refused to do this. saying he did not_wish to interfere with the final rites. But he did order Shankarcharva not to style himself “Jagadguru Shankarcharva of Kervir pith” in exercising any ecclesiastical rights. This title is understood to carry with it the authority to convert to Hinduism. but even if the legality of the ceremony were in question the wed- ding managers were not perturbed. They decided to proceed with the rites. Freely Accepts Hinduism. Attired in Indian dress, Miss Miller | told Shankarcharva that of her own free will and accord she had decided to embrace Hinduism. The American girl made solemn affirmation that she entered into this religion as a result of deep and sincere convictions and not through any worldly motives. She ex- ressed her determination to remain g’ue always to Hinduism and to try to maintain its ideals. Miss Miller's party numbered about 20 and included her grandmother and the Princesses Savittriba and Tarabai, sisters of Tukoji Rao. Before going to Nasik, Miss Miller visited the former maharajah’s step- mother and conversed with her in the vernacular. ~The American girl is anxious to improve her ability to use this language.
