ILIST HAS REACTION ONCURB EXCHANGE Profit-Taking Seen in Many Directions—Utilities Are Featureless. TAM F. HEFFERNAN, Special Lispatch to The Star, NEW YORK, February 11.—Declin- ing tendencies that developed in late trading vesterday were again in evi- dence in numerous directions in the closing trading of the week on the Curb Exchange. Taking the list as a whole, the reactions from the final prices of a week ago were rather pro- nounced in a number of speclalties that had furnished the outstanding features in the recent upward movement. There was reason to believe that sen- timent toward the market was not as optimistic as it had been a week and two weeks ago and that developments in the credit situation are likely to play a mote prominent part in the fu- {ture than they did immediately fol- lowing the advances in rediscount rates. Brokers’ loans were at their highest for all time, notwithstanding that liquida- tion that might have been expected to result in decreases in borrowings at the | banks. Public Utilities were almost devold of feature today. Electric Bond & Share was subjected to rather urgent profit taking, but this reflected nothing more than a desire to even up accounts over the extended week end. United Gas & Improvement Worked higher for a time, out subsequently lost their improvement. Prominent oil shares apparently were marking time awaiting publication of the final reports for 1927 results which in many instances are expected to make anything but a favorable comparison w¥ith the previous year. Standard of In- diana and Vacuum Oll were fractionally lower. Because of the latest developments in the Bancitaly situation, the stock con- tinued one of the most prominent in the trading. Speculative Wall Street still had no official confirmation of rumors concern- ing a merger of this company with New York banking interests, but was in- clined to place credence in these re- ports. The price opened more than a point higher, but did little further. Sparks Withington «.id at a new high, but the buying was not as urgent as at intervals early In the week. Pros- pects of distributions larger than the prevailing rate of $1 annually evidently was the lncomlve lnr the demand.
