MARY LEE SMITH DIES IN HOSPITAL Had Recently Returned From Fort Leavenworth, Kans., Where Husband Was Stationed. Mrs. Mary Lee Smith, 42 years old, wife of Maj. Julian C. Smith, United States Marine Corps, died in Walter Reed Hospital yesterday after a long illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of this city. She was married to Maj. Smith eight years ago after the death of her hus- band, Thomas Browning Spence. Re- cently she had been at Fort Leaven- worth, Kans., where Maj. Smith was |a student at the Command and Gen- eral Staff School, having been trans- ferred there from Washington in Au- gust. Besides her husband and mother, Mrs. Alice V. Lee, 128 E street southeast, she leaves two brothers Harry L. Lee of the E street address, and George R. Lee of Brentwood, Md. Funcral services will be conducted in the Fort Myer Chapel tomorrow after- noon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. E. Hea Swem, pastor of the Centennial Baptist Church. will officiate. Funeral Services Held Here, With Interment in Fredericksburg. Miss Effic Beall Ware, for more than 10 years a confidential secretary for Harris, Forbes & Co., died at Garfleld Hospital Saturday after a brief illness. She was a daughter of the late Wil- liam and Clara Taylor Ware and was a native of Fredericksburg, Va. She was a member of Christ Church in George- town. One brother, Willlam E. Ware of Philadelphia, survives. Funeral services were held this morning at the home of Mrs. Charles G. McRoberts, 5 West Lenox street, Chevy Chase. Rev. E. Pinkney Ross, pastor of Christ Church, officiated. In- terment was to be at Fredericksburg, Va,, this afternoon. . OLD RESIDENT DIES. Mrs. E. Jane Dunnock Johnson Had Lived Here 60 Years. Mrs. E. Jane Dunnock Johnson, 83 years old, widow of Capt. Cornelius W. Johnson and for more than 60 years a resident of Washington, died at her residence, 1419 R street, Saturday after a short illness. Her husband, who died 15 years ago, was for many years master of a Chesapeake Bay steamship. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be private, in Glenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Johnson is survived by four daughters, Miss Cora P. Johnson, Mrs. Edna M. Dowie, Mrs. Antionette Galli- gan and Mrs. Ethel Perry, and three sons, Carl B, Milton W. and Cornelius W. Johnson, all of this city. She also leaves nine grandchildren. Albert Ordway, who founded the National Guard here, died yester- day morning at her apartment in Stoneleigh Courts at the age of 82, ch:lh was ascribed to infirmities of Mrs. Ordway is survived by a son, Col. Godwin Ordway, who is stationed at Fort Hancock, N. J., and five grand- children, with one of whom, Miss Valerie B. Padelford, she made her home. * Private funeral services will be con- ducted at the apartment tomorrow morning by Rev. Dr. Robert Johnson of St. John's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Gen. Ordway was the first command- ing general of the District of Columbia Militia, serving from the date of its in- ception in 1889, until his death in 1897.
