The extent of the rise during the first hour approximated 1 a point, and several issues sold at their | best levels for the new year. In the , | closing hour there was some profit tak- | Ing for over the week end, but the undertone held up quite well. Public utilities came in for special at- tention. and practically every impor- tant stock in the group registered a gain. Conspicuous in the advance were Electric Bond & Share.
