SECURITY STORAGE SPLIT-UP IS 0.KD Stock to Be Reduced to 325 Par and New Shares Issued on Four-for-One Basis. BY EDWARD C. STONE. The stockholders of the Security Storage Co., at a special meeting vesterday, voted unanimously to ap- prove the ommendation of the board of directors to reduce the pa: value of the stock from $100 to $: per share, and to issue to the stockholders four shares of the new stock for each share of the present stock. This company was established in 1906 and succeeded the storage de- partment of the American Security & Trust Co., the trust company still being largely interested in the stor- age company. The capital stock is $500,000, but it is understood that the value of the company's ware- houses and property is several times its capitalization. The stock of the storage company has always been very closely held and shares only infrequently come on the market. It has recently been quot- el on the Washington Stock Ix- change at 476 and has sold during the year.as high as 485. Under the new plan it will probably be quoted at first around 125. Clarence A. Aspinwall, who has been with the company since its early years, is president of Security Storage and the other officers, who have also grown up with the company, include Charles W. Pimper, vice president and treasurer; Charles P. Ravenburg, sec- retary; F. A. Ray, superintendent; H. L. Clayton, manager of the cold stor- age department; Paul Alvey, assistant secretary, and Miss Helen Howison, assistant treasurer. Mr. Aspinwall states that the com- pany has one of the largest storage depositories anywhere in the country, and was a pioneer in developing effl cient methods for the care and hand- ling of household goods and personal effects. He says it was the first com- pany in this city to use padded moving | al vans and the first in the world to ap- ply cold storage to the protection of furs and other articles subject to in- sect depreciation. Railway Common Is Feature. ‘Washington Railway & Electric common featured the Washington Stock Exchange today when it opened at a new high, 300, climbed to 325 and closed at 310. The day's trans- actions totaled 45 shares. The stock closed last week at 280, making a|am. jump of 30 points in less than half that number of days. Potomac Electric Power 6 per cent preferred was strong today at 110, 110% and 110%, and there was ond sale in the 5% per cent preferred at 103%. Sanitary Grocery preferred again sold at 102 and the only bank stock out, Commercial National, closed at 270%. On the bond side Washington Gas 6s Series B, sold at 105 and Gas 58 at 102. Market Company Changes Name. .8tockholders of the Washington Mar- ket Co. yesterday ratified the proposal of the board of directors to form a third company to be known as the Terminal Refrigerating & Warehousing Corporation. The plan was outlined by the directors several weeks ago. The new company will have an author- ized capital of $1,000,000, to be divided into 20,000 shares with a par value of $60, the same as the present stock of the Washington Market Co. The new ‘company will exchange the stock share for share with the market com- pany and also hold in trust for the Washington Market Co. all the stock of the subsidiary Terminal Refrigerat- ing & Warehousing Co. ‘When the new rprporfl.lion acquires ownership of all the stock of the mar- ket company, it will take over the d!- | F\ rect ownership of all the assets and liabilities of the market company and its subsidiary, and the two then will 5 be dissolved. And in due time appli- cation will be made to list the new stock on the local exchange. Reports show that the Washington Market Co. is in excellent financial condition. It has, however, outgrown its charter and the present steps are being taken to remove these limita- tions, thus permitting it to conduct business on broader lines as well as more efficiently and economically. The reorganization committee was composed of Charles J. Bell, Wris- ley Brown and Eugene E. Thompson. The directors of the old company, as well as of the new company, are Charles J. Bell, chairman; Wrisley Brown, Clarence A. Aspinwall, Apple- ton P. Clarke, jr.; Gustave F. Fors- berg, William M. Hannay, James B. Lambie, Ralph W. Lee, Robert D. Marshall, Clarence F. Norment, Sim- eon T. Price, Willlam P. Reeves and Eugene E. Thompson. Two Dividends Declared. At its last monthly meeting the | board of directors of the National Cap- ital Mortgage Co. voted the payment of the fourteenth quarterly dividend on the preferred stock at the rate of 8 per cent per annum, and an extra quarterly dividend of 1 per cent in ad- dition to the originally established an- nual dividend of 8 per cent on the com- mon, payable October 1, 1927, to all stockholders of record September 20. ! waq) Fifth District Ratio Drops. A sharp increase in use of Reserve Bank credits in the local fifth district is made evident by the weekly state- ment of Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, released today. This re- veals a drop in the reserve ratio to 4 new low for the year at 46.81 per cent, from 53.98 per cent the week before. Rediscounts jumped to $29,557,000 from $£5,085,000, and_bills bought in the open market to $23,557,000 from |C] $19,694,000. Member bank reserve de- posits also showed a decline during the week, totaling $71,760,000 on Sep- tember 21, compared with $74,130,000 the week before. The reserve ratio of the 12 Federal Reserve Banks combined was 30 per cent higher than the Richmond ratio, standing at 77.10 per cent. Hotel Company Votes Dividend. The board of directors of the Fed- eral Capital Hotel Co., at a recent meeting, voted a quarterly 2 per cent dividend on the preferred stock. The dividend is payable October 1 to all stockholders of record September 20. Finds Country Prosperous. GINNINGS REPORT SENDS COTTON UP Reactions Follow Excited Ad- vance and Market Be- comes Quieter. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, Septembe: 3.—The cotton market opened easy today at a decline of 19 to 27 polnts, December selling off to 20.25 and March to 20.54. | while the prices of October broke to 19.94, or the lowest figure touched since last August. Selling was attributed to futher Southern hedging, combined with liguidation promoted by relatively easy Liverpool cables; a private crop indication report of 13,800,000 bales and cxpectations of large ginning figures. There was trade buying and cover- ing on the decline which cauged ral- lies of 9 or 10 points from the lowest, and the market was less active after early offerings had been absorbed. An excited advance immediately fol- lowed the publication of the census report. The ginnings of 3,505,552 bales reported prior to September 16 were evidently below recent expecta- tions, and December contracts promptly advanced from 20.23 to 21.24, or a cent from the low level of the morning, and 71 points above yester- day’s closing figures. Quick reactions of 45 to 55 points followad under heavy realizing, and the market was quieter around midday. A private crop report wae published pointing to a yield of 13,788,000 bales, which may have helped to check the advance on the ginning figures. Washington Stock Exchange SALES. Washington Gas 6s !
