The various societies of women in the Episcopal Church hold provincial conventions at the time of the synod, with varving numbers of diocesan rep- resentatives. Altogether, the synod will bring to Roanoke about 200 church people. On Wednesday afternoon Bish- op Robert Carter Jett and Mrs. Jett will hold a reception at their home for the visitors, The women's organi- gations represented will include the Woman's Auxiliary, the Daughters of the King. the * Friendly Society, St. Barnabas Guild of Nurses and the Church Periodical Club. The session of the synod meeting in Roanoke will be largely devoted to & discussion of the boarding and day #achools under church administration ;within the province, and this is the first time in the history of the prov- ince that the church boarding schools have been featured at a synod meet- HONOR FOR WOMAN, Memorial Service Planned for Mrs. Harriet E. Monroe. A memorial service will be held in Luther Place Memorial Church, Thomas circle, tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock, for the late Mrs. Harriet Farhart Monroe. Mrs. Monroe, a writer, was a regular weekly con- tributor to the Lutheran, official organ of the United Lutheran Church, and for many years she had been a Washington correspondent for the Philadelphia Public Ledger. She was for 20 years a member of the Lutheran Place Church and she organized and taught the Monroe class in the Bible school. Dr. Dif- fenderfer, the pastor, will deliver the imemorial address and Mrs. Arthur Briscoe, president of the Monroe class, ‘and Mr. Irving L. Koch will take part in the service. Griffith, pastor of one of the largest churches in California, will preach at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Shiloh [Baptist Institutional Church, Ninth and P streets.
