THE EVENING STAR. WASHINGTON. n . SATURDAY. SEPTEMBER _10. 1927 ‘BALL URGES UNITY INROAD BUILDING Arlington Mass Meeting Told 1o Concentrate on Direct Route. Special Dispatch to The S CLARENDON, Va., September Speaking at a mass meeting held last night under auspices of the Ar- lington County Unit of the National Boulevard Association, State Senator Frank L. Ball declared that the time has come for all citizens in county to work together for the de- velopment of adefinite road-building program. “Within a few yvears the new Memorial Bridge will be opened to traffic and we must be prepared with an adequate approach,” he “I believe in the 200-foot boule and also the boulevard,” declared Senagor Ball. “The gnsoline tax money received hy the county and any other money that the count aise should be used on the direct road, in that way the county can build it without any increase in taxes. By this plan w will at least be able to build two miles of road, and in a short time the entire distance of the direct road will have been built,” said the Senator. Dr. Samuel M. Johnson, of the National Boulevard Associa- tion, said the State Highway Commi: sion made the only reasonable recom mendation in its letter to the boards of supervisors of Arlington and Fair- fax Counties a few days ago. “The mmission would have been the ghing stock of the country had it considered any other route than it did.” he said. The supervisors of Fair- fax County have adopted the recom- mendations of the commission by proving the 200-foot houlevard, and Arlington County does not act it wi not be keeping step with Fairfax County.” .
