March 16. —Dr. Joseph | Yates Porter. retired officer of the United States Medical Corps and cred- ited with the first. demonstration of mosquito transmission of yellow fever in the United States, died at his home in Key West early today. Death came in the same room in which he was horn 79 vears ago. Dr. Porter was in charge of Govern ment relief in the vellow fever epi demics at Dry Tortugas in 1873, and at Key West, Miami.
