The Gar Wood entries are of the type that beat the Twentieth Century Lim- ited in a run from Albany to New York. In the trial for a new mtle rec- ord the hoats will show their abi.ities over a course to be surveyed by the Coast and Geodetic Survey and will be timed by an electrical timing de- vice to be brought here from Chi- eago solely for the purpose of check- ing their speed in the test. Washington is tuking keen inter- est in her first national regatta and the committee, headed by W. A. Rogers, who returned vesterday from Detrolt with additional entries for the varfous events, expects that be- tween 75,000 and 100,000 persons, will witneds the feature races from the sea wall and the gallery of yachts. The Signal Corps is arranging tels- graph and telephone communication with the ghore so that the results may be broadcast to the crowds from the revenue cutter Apache, which will serve as the officlal committee boat, ! If the President had returned from the Northern woods, it is thought likely that he will present the $5,000 ;old trophy to the winner of the resident’s Cup race, which heads the list of events. e ALEXANDRIA GOLFERS HAVE LEAGUE MATCH ALEXANDRIA, Va., September 10. —Alexandria’s sporting fraternity will gather at Belle Haven Golf and Country Club tomorrow afternoon to witness the playing of the six Tri- State Golf Association teams in the fitth tournament of that hody this year. Provisions for. 3,000 spectators have been made by the golf com- mittee. ‘The Fountain Head Club of Hag- erstown, Md.; the Blue Ridge Golt and Country Club of Martinsburg, W. Va. Winchester Golf Club of . the Catoctin Club ¥ d’; the Opequeon Club of Rovce, and the Belle Haven of this city have entered eight-man teams. Following the Belle Haven meet, the teants will appear in competition for the last time this season on the Catoctin Club course at Frederick. Five races, postponed from the Labor day program at the Alexandria municipal pools when rain interfered, will be held tomorrow at 3:30. The Old Dominion Boat Club will send its junior quadruple-sculls crew and junior gig crew to the Potomac Boat Club regatta in Wash- ington tomorrow for special matth races. The quad will be composed of B. G. Minor, Tom Hulfish, Parke Bell and Robert Whitton. The gig will be handled by Lewis Bell, cox- swain; Marshall, Trout, Curtin and Gorman. The Potomac Volunteer Fire De. partment foot ball team will hold a workout Sunday morning, and all candidates are requested to report at the clubrooms.
