It did no however, count as much as a bu: movement in a set of stocks in which tha public was heavily interested both Jn an investment and speculative way. Such a buying wave developed ‘o day in the popular oil shares. and once the operation got under way proceeded quickly. Before the end of the first hour the leading oils were up a half point 1o a point from ves terday’s final. These advances were’ sustained in the later dealings. Special Dispatch to The Star NEW YORK, June 15.—Although there were outstanding spots of strength, the general tone in the bond market today was easler, reflecting the profit-taking in those issues—most | of them semi-speculative—which have enjoyed the largest advances in re- cent trading Missour! Pacific 4s, which on two successive ‘days established new high records, reacted today almost a point below (their best price. Other rail- road bonds in this same general clase were inclined to sell off, but none of the losses was more than might have been anticipated from the extent of the rise. The feature in the highgrade group was the strength in Liberty 314s, which went to a new 1926 top. Probably this demand was the result of switching from Libertys, on which atter July 1 there will be no longer tax exemption except to the amount of $5,000 par value for any one holder. The other Government oblil- gations were steady, with all offers readily absorbed around current levels.
