Riggles, sistant superin- tendent of mails: Sidney M. Bursley, assistant superintendent of mails; Tiiram M. Jones, superintendent of motor vehicle service; Basil Sillers, foreman, second-class section, and Wallace Blount, foreman of the Con- necticut avenue station. Mr. Williams # survived by his widow, two sons, Richard and Roland Williams; three daughters, Katharine, Florence and Marion Williams, all of Brentwood, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Kate Wright, and two brothers, Willlam H. Williams and Alonzo A. Willlams of this cit He had been in the postal service since March, 1897, and had been pro- moted from clerk to his present posi- tion, assistant superintendent of maiis, In July, 1917, Mr. Williams was made chief mailing clerk and in July, 1918, he organized the post office sta- tion in the War Department. Although he was given untrained assistants, he nevertheless raised the mail service of the War Department to a high point of efficiency, it is stated. He was subsequently made superin- tendent of the Navy Department post office station _and later placed in charge of the Connecticut avenue sta- tion as superintendent, and in Sep- tember, 1922, was promoted (o the po- sition of assistant superintendent of mails. Mr. Williams was considered by many the best informed man in the postal service. In a bulletin of postal information Postmaster W. M. Mooney said: “It is with extreme regret that an- nouncement is made of the death on April 23 of Charles R. Williams, as- sistant superintendent of maile. With i his passing this offica loses a most efficient supervisor and the employes a. loyal friend. His unfailing optimism in the face of overwhelming odds is less than an inspiration to For many months he has a_ determined, but steadily fight against disease, and al- though the result was inevitable, he never lost hope, but looked forward {until the end to his return to duty he memory of that battle will ever be a strengthening force to his friends in times of adversity.” all of us. | waged losing, Births Reported. followi Health The the & _births have been reported Department in the last 24 liors |7 Raymond W | Morris J. and | Rosario and Jomeph and Agues Hillsing: arl Katherine L.
