ATLANTA, Ga., March 2.—John Whitehouse Worthington of Chicago, known as the “wolf of La Salle street,” dled at the Atlanta Federal penitentiary today, where he was serving a term for using the malls to defraud. Death was caused by & stroke of paralysis. Worthington was brought to the Denitentiary last October 10 to serve two years. He was suffering from diabetes and a former paralytic stroke and had to be carried into the penitentiary. During his six months’ confinement he was kept in the prison hospital and given special treatment for dia- betes. His condition was thought to be improving, but the second stroke | of paralysis this morning proved fatal. | Father of Actress, Funeral arrangements will not be | completed until word is received from | relatives. Jane Allen, actress, is | Worthington's daughter. After charges were made aralnst him in Chicago he fled to Mexico, where he remained several years be- fore returning voluntarily to face the { accusations. Due to his physical con- ditlon special efforts were made to | obtain commutation of sentence. An | appeal was made to the United States torney General to save him from sentence, but all efforts which “I would rather be in prison in the | United States than be free in Mex- | ico,” Worthington stated when he sur- rendered to Chicago authoritles after | his return from Mexico. A few duys ago he filed an appll- |cation for commutation of sentence | with the Department of Justice. Worthington's operations are estl- mated to have netted him more than | $2,600,000. LYON VILLAGE, Va., March 2.—A tentative constitution for the newly organized Lyon Village Citizens' sociation was drawn up last night at a meeting of a special committee. The proposed governing act includes approved features of various other Arlington County civie bodies and is modeled along the general lines of thal of the Lyon Park Civie Association. Arthur Orr, former pre8ident of the latter organization, gave the commit- tee a number of suggestions that were taken into consideration in formulat- ing the new draft.
