By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, February 8.—The traffic cop's shrill blast that daily guided thousands of cars and trucks through the masses of Chicago's “loop” may be stilled forever. A new co-ordinated system of traffic lights, called the largest in the world, was put into operation yesterday morning, when Mayor W. E. Daver| threw a switch that turned on lights at Forty-nine str et intersections. The system is concrolled from a board in the cit hall, and traffic den- ty will be reported at every hour so that the op-rator may regulate the flashes to meet the varying con- ditions. Differing with the tems employed on Michigan boulevard here and on Fifth avenue and Broadway in New York City, where the traffic flow is continuous along the length of the streets, the stop and go intervals here vary at different intersections.
