C., TRUCK HEADS PLAN STANDARDIZATION Simplification of Parts and Chassis Urged at Two- Day Conference Here. A group of 160 executives of motor truck companies and the leading parts manufacturers of the country, comprising the merfibership of Motor Truck Industries, Inc., = yesterday ended a two-day standardization con- ference, held at the Department of Commet by being recelved at the White House and taken on a tour of inspection through the Bureau of Standards. During thelr sessions here the auto- motive leaders made pronounced prog- ress on their program calling for a general simplification and standard- ization of truck chassis and parts. It is pointed out, inasmuch as there are 2,150,000 motor trucks in the United States, the membership con- siders that anything which can be done to promote greater efficiency through simplification will be highly advantageous to the transportation facilities. Four Sizes Urged. One of the most important features of the meeting has been the discus sfon over the practicability of ing four sizes of motor truck ch: to supplant a wide range of sizes now made. The sizes suggested are fastfreight class, 1 ton, and 1'% to 2 tons; heavy duty cla 4-3 tons, and 4.5 tons. Merle Thorpe, editor of Nation's Business, speaking at a banquet, told the truck and accessory men that “it s high time for us to discard the phrase, ‘there ought to be a law’ and substitute another one, “there ought to be fewer laws." NEW YORK, November 14 (P).— Herbert Hoover was re-elected presi- dent of the American Child Health As. soclation yesterday at the annual meeting. Two new vice presidents, Dr. Arnold Gesell and Mrs. A. H. Reeves, were elected. The most important single plece of work undertaken by the association during 1924, the annual report stated, was “a heaith survey of 86 cities,” in which was portrayed a comprehensive pleture of child health in the United States. Although municipalities were found to have the child health work well in hand, the survey disclosed that there existed a real need for trained health officers devoting their entire at- tention to the work and greater public education in child health.
