HUGHES. : Special Dispatch to The Star { NEW YORK, July 7.—Increased activity among the more speculative obligations was the feature of the day in_bonds Railway issues were especially fa- vored, among’the leaders being Mis- souri, Kansas and Texas adjustments and the St. Louis-San Francisco in- comes. The first named were up a point on fairly large volume. The second crossed 89 to within a fraction of its best previous price. Railroad Bonds Bought. Buying of the Missouri-Kansas- Texas bonds was based on hopes of a higher dividend on the preferred stock into which the bond is convertible, while_the advance in the St. Louis. San Francisco issue went on accom. panied by more talk about an offer to the holders of preferred or common stock in exchange for their bonds. At the same time there was animated in-| vestment buying of St. Louis-San | Francisco prior lien “A” 4s. The same influence advanced the quotation for Southern Railway general 4s. Copper Liens Strong The strength in copper stocks ongthe Exchange was reflected in higher pfices for some of the copper bonds. Chile Copper 6s went up nearly 2 points on this movement. Prospect of early re- | organization of Virginja-Carolina 7 per cent bonds up to within a half {point of par. American Agricultural Chemical 713s went higher, also.
