Miss Nellle O'Keefe, 75_years old, died at her residence, 1337 L street, Wednesday after a lingering {llness. Miss O'Keefe was the daughter of the ‘at John J. and Mrs. Elizabeth O'Keefe. During President Grant's admin- istration, Miss O'Keefe opened a boarding house on Sixteenth street, near the White House, and Grant used to stop at the house frequently to see many of his old Army friends who lived there. Later she and her sister moved to Sixteenth and I streets, where they were 50 Sucoess- ful that they later took over six houses in that vieinity. These wouses became known as Cocoran row. They were owned by the late W. W. Corcoran The late Mrs. Plummer was the so- cial head and housekeeper, while Miss O'Keefe was the buyer and business manager. George Ditewig, 61 years old, assis- tant to the ohief of the meat inspec- tion division of the Bureau of Animal Industry, Department of Agriculture, and who had held many important positions with the department, died at his residence in the Brunswick Apartments, 1332 I street, Wednesday. He was born in Peoria, Ill., February 11, 1863. He was appointed to the Bureau of Animal Industry, Agricultural De- partment, in 1897, and became an in- spector of the National Stock Yards, in Illinois, and served afterward inspector in charge at the stock yards at Davenport, Iowa. Later he was placed in charge of the yards in Cincinnati, Ohlo, and from there transferred to South St. Joseph, Mo. In 1907, soon after a new meat in- spection law had gone into effect, Mr. Ditewig was made a traveling in- spector, a position important in the department. Soon thereafter he was promoted to the position that he held at the time of his death. Mr. Ditewig was a Mason. He is survived by a half-brother, John Dex- ter of Ardmore, Okla.
