WINNIPEG, Manitoba, December 19. —On a flood of buying orders which was believed to have been caused chiefly by speculative interests, wheat prices on the Winnipeg Exchange this morning advanced sensationally dur- ing the first hour's trading, December reaching 1.76% and May futures 1.803%, smashing all high records for the present movement. There was considerable profit tak- ing, but the offerings were readily absorbed and the market acted stub- bornly between 1.79 to 1.80 for May. The undertone appeared to be very strong and local sentiment continued extremely bullish. HIGH PRICES CAUSE BIG | GAIN IN GRAIN ACREAGE Higher prices stimulated Winter wheat and rye plantings this Fall, the Department of Agriculture states in announcing that the Winter wheat arca is 42,317,000 acres, or 6.5 per cent more than that planted last Fall. | Asso Ofl (13%). |AtT& S Fe (6). | Atlas Tack. . ! NEW YORK, December 19.—Great irregularity prevailed in the bond market today, but in the main the trend was. lower. In the foreign group the recently offered Greek 7s and ‘Belgian 6s stiil s0ld at premiums over the offering prices, but not at their best levels. -The Hungarlan T%s held practically all their recent but French bonds were con- splcuously heavy. There were large sales of City of Solssons 6s at a sub- stantial decline. It looked as though the spechilation in the new foreign offerings had ‘been' overdone. Government Loans Lower. United States Government bonds were also lower. Here, however, the influence undoubtedly was the firmer tone in time money. The Treasury 4148 sold below 105 and were down the most. There was no particular selling of the high grade ralls but there was no interest shown on the| ‘ing side. Elsewhere in the rail- road 1ist the only prominently strong fentures were in such convertible bonds as New York Central deben- ture sixes which went up with the stock. The low price high ylelding adjustment bonds were very little changed. Day's New Offeringx. Among industrials Chile Copper 68 were strong above 108 and the Ana- conda bonds had a better tone.
