AUTO AIDS HEALTH, DOGTOR DECLARES Danger of Monoxide Gas De- creasing—Food Notions Are Changing. By the Associated Press, SYRACUSE, N. Y., November 11.— The automobile was praised as one of the most potent factors in_promoting health and longevity by Dr. Woods Hutchinson, author and lecturer, in an address today before the State com- mittee on tuberculosis and public health of the State Charities Ald Asso- clatfon. “Your car takes you out in the open,” he said, “into the air and the sunlight—nature's great curative THE EVENING forces. Your car adds to your years of life. Modern life. with its automo- biles, its speed, its dainty foods and other luxuries, {sn’t so bad, after- all.” Sven the danger of death which lurks in the carbon' monoxide gas given out by automobiles, Dr. Hutch- inson declared, is being lessened by recent discoveries in spite of the fact that deaths from this source rank sec- ond among automobile fatalitles. ‘Until recently there w no sure cure for the victim of tl gas,” he explained, “but not long ago it was discovered that carbon dioxide, the air which we breathe out of our lungs, will, when mixed with oxygen and ad. ministered to the victim, revive him.” “Tuberculosis, which* used to head our death lists,” he continued, “now ranks third, fourth or even fifth. In recent years many of the notions of doctors ‘have changed. Good food, we know today, s a proper aid to health, and by good food I mean foods that formerly were abhorred, including ice cream, cakes and salads. All are rich in vitamines, and although we do not know what these vitamines are we do know that they make for health.” Harboring a grude agalnst some one is only another way of punish- ing ourselves Copyright 1924 Hart Schaffucr & Marx STAR, WASHINGTON, MINNESOTA DEFEATS OXFORD IN DRY DEBATE English Students Unable t> Con- vince Audience Prohibition Is Wrong.
