Insurance companies were still purchasers of the high- grade issues, forming almost the only support, but it was sufficient to main- tain prices. Good bonds yielding from 5 to b4 per cent were also in demand. Colorado and Southern 41zs, above 90, equaled their high of the year, and among industrials such lssues as American Smelting and Refining bs sold at their best prices for 1924, Liberties and Treasury 4%s were steady. Second Grades Uneven. When the second grade and more speculative bonds were reached the market was very irregular. A few of the railroad obligations improved, | notably the Norfolk Southern Refund- ing b5, which made g point above Saturday St. Paul group new high a half closing. Mr. Lead- beater a quarter of a century ago suc- ceeded his father in the superintend- ency after the elder Leadbeater had held the place for 30 years, Fire, originating in a defective flue, yesterday caused considerable damage to the stock of clothing in the store of Ridgley & Jones, 517 King street. Firemen ~quickly extinguished the flames after tearing a big hole in the base of the chimney. Mr. Ridgely discovered the fire when he went to the store early to let down an awning before going to Baltimore. Hundreds of citizens yesterday vis- ited the U. S. S, Osborne, torpedo boat destroyer, which is anchored here for observance of Navy day today. The visitors include 4,000 students of the schools. Special exercises-are being held in the various schools, after which they will close, and at 2 o'clock the children will march to the big boat, where the crew will assist in a thorough inspection of the fighting craft and serve ship-bafled crullers and coffee.
