Deportation alone would not be serious enough to prevent further frauds, he said, and the courts agreed. The punishment meted out to the Chi- nese here does not hit the principals in the immigration plot directly, but the Canadian authoritics believe it will prevent other Chinese from be- ing victimized. Before they start for home, however, a full description of them is recorded and their photo- graphs filed. The organization behind this flle- gal trafic, however, had gone to great pains to deceive the authori- ties. All the false certificates werc caretully printed and bore the names of Chinese who actually left this country. Moreover, the numbers and details of the holders' ages had been made to tally with the original cer- tificates. This convinced the authori- ties that the sellers of the fajse docu- ments-in China have been working in co-dperation with a ring in this country. So far, Canadian police have been unable to discover the operators here. Meanwhile all certificates of entry presented by Chinese arriving from the Orient will be carefully exam- ined, and all holders of false papers will be prosecuted, jailed and later deported. Cornwell and Detectives Cole ana Davis of the sixth precinet yes- terday afternoon had an agent tender him a $2 parlay on Surf and Baby Grand at Laurel. Howe Is alleged to have accepted the bet while in a hotel barber shop, and when arrested a few minutes later he had marked money and bet- ting slips In his posscssion, accord- ing to the police. His explanation of the Incident, police stated, was that he had accepted the bet for another man.
