DAVIS AND ATADO0 MEET ATLUNCHEON Candidate and Defeated Contender to Discuss Cam- paign Plans Today. iy the Associated Press. eptember 23.—John illiam G. McAdoo are s politics today at a luncheon conference to be held at Democratic headquarters here. This will be the second meeting of the Democratic presidential nominee and the former Treasury Secretary since the national Democratic con- vention which turnéd to Mr. Davis to’] break the deadlock between Mr, Mc- Adoo and Gov. Alfred E. Smith. Mr. McAdoo returned here late yes- terday after a two-month stay in Furope. He plans to remain here for a week or more before starting for his home in California. En route he is expected to make half a dozen or more addres on behalf of Mr. Davis' candidacy. Besides m Mr. McAdoo the Tremocratic standard-bearer will re- sume today his conferences with his campaign managers, who hope to complete the itinerary of the gam- paign in the Kast, upon which Mr. Davis will embark probably within the next two or three days. He will go into Massachusetts, Rhode lsland, Delaware, Maryland. New York State and perhaps some others before again returning westward to resume his fight for the presidency WILL PRESS CHARGE ON MRS. FERGUSON Counsel Introducing Evidence in Sunit to Disqualify Texas Can- didate for Governor. By the Associated Press AUSTIN. Tex., Septemb sel for Charles M. Dic in the injunction cage seeking to dis- qualify Mrs. Miriam Ferguson, Democratic candidate for governor, was prepared today to introduce evi- dence and present arguments in sup- Dort of the contention that Mrs. Fer- guson’s name should not appear on the ballot in November. The defense planned to take up its arguments on jurisdiction of the State district court and the constitutional- ity of the law under which Mr. Dick- son brought suit. and the question whether a_woman has the right to “ hold office §n Texas. These were de- clared to be the foundation of the case The defense vesterday attacked the validity of the law and the jurisdic- tion of the court. It was argued that Mr. Dickson had no right to bring the suit under the statute because the question is a political mater for the law officers of the State, and because Mrs. Ferguson's election would not ‘@amage the plaintiff The plaintiff yesterday filed a sup- plemental pet intended to show that statements alleged to have been s. Ferguson indicated an agreement whereby her husband, 2. Ferguson. former governor, would be the real governor in the event of her election. This would be in circumvention of the impeach- ment verdicts against Ferguson Sev- eral years ago. which barred him from holding public office in the State, it previously had been alleged Mrs. Ferguson, in answer to the suit. denied that there was any agree- ment between herself and her hus- Tand that he was to be governor in her name, and a similar answer filed by the State's attorney general, named as a defendant in the suit, declared such charges to be \conclusions of opinion and insufficient in law to make a cause of action. r 23.—Coun- son, plaintiff BT N With characteristic dislike of osten- tation, the late “E. Nesbit” (Mrs. Hubert Bland). noted Engiish poet, novelist and writer of children’s books, directed that the only memorial over her grave should be a wooden tablet bearing her name.
