COLLEGES GET MANY PUPILS FROM VIRGINIA Prospects for High School Grad- uates Better Than in Most States, Says Education Official. By the Associated Press, RICHMOND, Va.,, August 29.—Vir- ginia will send a larger percentage of her 1924 high school graduates to colleges and universities this Au- wumn than most other States. This was the opinion here today of Dr. W. T. Sanger, secretary of the State Board of Education, who said that out of 5,866 high school gradu- ates last June, 3,227 could be ex- pected to enter the lists of collegiate Itutions in September. “Most of the stadents will enter Virginia institutions,” Zzzrr. 77 continued the secretary, “and a large per centage of them will finish the four-year courses.” “In-some State,” he said, tude is that high schools train for life, but this is not true of Virginia where the high schools stress the training for higher studles with a rigid system of college credit courses, The collegiate record of each of the high school students entering the higher institutions will be reported to the oBard of Education upon the completion of the first year's classes. These reports will be used by the de- partment in checking up on the work of the various high schools and de- terminating the efficiency of them with the view of assisting and aiding them to reach and maintain superior methods of teaching.” AEA— He—Do you remember Horatius at the bridge?
