Schmucker led the crowd into the Midway, through a series of stunts on the amusements In the building. Later a series of stunts was put on at the dance pavilion, one of them being ‘“political” spéeches by two of the ‘store orators, Fred Huber and Marx E. Kahn. An amateur dancing contest also was staged. A prize waltz was won by Mr. Quaid and Miss Miller, Prizea dogated by the buyers and executives of the store were dis- tributed. The members of the firm were among those present, enjoyiig the day with their associates. A small newspaper, edited by J. | White of the publicity department, created much fun. Exsay Contest. A week previous to the picnic an | essay contest on the subject “Why I Shall Go to the Picnlc,” was staged and the winners were announced as follows: First, Belt F. Cambell, who was presented with a silk comfort; second, Mrs. Ruth Talbott, who re- ceived a pair of brocaded corsets; third, Mrs. L. Blaser, who was award- ed a linen buffet set, and fourth, W. ‘W.
