WORK ON WHEAT .~ DUTIES NEAR END) The Tariff Commission neared the end of its work on the wheat duties today and is expected to maKe its report to the President within two weeks. All data gathered by the Wheat Coun- «il of the United States and arguments in favor of a rate advance under the _flexible provisions of the tariff act were presented to the commission by Repre ,sentative Anderson of Minnesoti, pres ident of the organization, and former Senator McCumber of North Dakota, its attorney. The commission, which has com- pleted its independent investigation of production costs, will make no recom- mendation in its report to the Presi- dent, but its information is said to indicate that an increase in the wheat rate will be found justifiable. The rato is fixed at 30 cents a bushel in the law, and may be revised to the ex- tent of 50 per cent of that amount by executive action. The commission announced it had concluded an_investigation into the cost of tho production of flour and other wheat products and would make pablic its preliminary findings prob- ably tomorrow.
