WEATHER PROOFING NOW REGARDED AS ECONOMY Keeps Out Mueh Cold Air and , Causes Saving on Fuel. The saving of fuel was not seriously considered in the building of most houses. Many have been shabbily built «nd permit too much cold air to enter. Only a few years ago fuel was cheap and few bothered about saving it. While it Is true that most attention should be given to proper building of new houses, much can be done to prevent the loss of heat in poorly built and run-down houses. To save heat now will teach those who plan to build new houses the value of weather-proofing and good con- struction. Our own comfort and that of our neighbors demands that we ob- tain the most heat from our coal without waste, and that we try to re- duce our requirements as much as possible. All houses should be well ventilated, but this does not mean that unregu- ted drafts of cold air should sweep at all times. It s0 be remembered that in cold weather the warm air is contin- ually escaping, and. as it pa through holes and cracks In the walls is at once re plu\<d by the cold eut- ul’ door air. The crowded condition of the old Baltimore-Washington Highway, via Hyattsville and Laurel, and getting worse every day as Baltimore and Washington grow, has rendered it absolutely necessary to have another thoroughfare between these two cities; only recently has the link between Olney and Ellicott City been completed, and the public is just finding the Olney route. Drive out Sunday after- noon and look over the Kirk Property. This road goes through a beautiful country; then, too, the approach to both cities is so superior; into Washington on Sixteenth Street, into Baltimore through beautiful Catons- ville. I have recently made this trip and saved 20 minutes as against the Laurel route. THE PROPERTY Lies between the Baltimore Highway and the \\'gi(mins(cr road at Olney, has long frontage on both roads, ideal for subdivision. The Westminster road is now being improved and will soon be the main automobile thoroughfare be- tween Washington and the north, cutting off many miles over present routes.
