Corps units may go ahead full speed of complaints last week of |next year. = civilian military training “During the present fiscal year,” Gen. Davis sald in his letter to the reserve officers, “there will be sep- arated from the Army some 74,000 en- 1isted men, mostly on account of ex- piration of their terms of service. Of these about 50,000 will be separated by January 1. 1924. Some of these men were enlisted through the un- tiring efforts of many of you now in the Reserve Corps who were then in active service. “The authorized strength of the Army is 125,000 men, while the actual strength s now about 112,000, With the limited funds and facilities for recruiting and the consequent lack of opportunity of presenting the situa- tion to the patriotic youth of the country, the problem of filling these vacancies Is a large oue. “Much assistance in solving it can be rendered the War Department by members of the Officers’ Reserve Corps, who, due to their knowledge of military matters, realize the im- portance of maintaining the perma- nent establishment &t a strength suf- ficlent to adequately and efficiently perform the duties imposed upon it by law. These men are urgently needed In carrying out the program of the department in connection with the Reserve Officers' Training. Corps, the citizens' military training camp the organized reserves and the N: tional Guard. That this program be carried out s imperative from the standpoint of adequate national de- fense. 1 am, therefore, appealing to each of you personally to secure dur- ing the next few months one recruit for the Regular Army.” GIVEN HIGHER RANK.
