The forsign exchanges, with the ex- eeption of Germdn marks, which made a new low, were dull and about st tionary awaiting the reception of the British note on reparations which wa reported to have gone forward to the allied capltals this morning. The abbreviated session on the cotton exchange ended with prices alightly 1ower. Recovery was chec ed in the grain market, and raw sug- ar was quoted at 53§ cents a pound as against 51 early in the week These movements threw little fur- ther light upon judgment regarding the general outlook. If there was any real confidence that the British reply note would bring France and Germany together it ywould show more than it has in the' movement of exchange rates. There are some in the financlal community who believe that prospects of a settlement are ®ood, but the majority feel the other way. The way the market took the early realizing “sales and turned upward again in the late afternoon simply went to show that the modern Wall street problems are all one w or the other MARKET CLOSES STRONG.
