C., July 17— Investigation of reports current here that six North Carolina men may in- herit a fortune estimated as high as $50,000,000 from the estate of James Baker, who went from Robeson county. N. C, to California seventy years ago, is being made by E. F. Aydelett, a local attorney, it was learned yesterday. Baker was said to have amassed a fortune in California and to have left two sons, who died without leaving heirs. Jack Baker, a tenant farmer of Pasquotank county, who is between fifty and sixty years of age; his broth- er, James Baker of Perquimans coun- ty, and four other nephews in Robeson county of the elder James Baker, are the men sald here to be in line for the reputed fortune.
