J. Manlove, Mis- souri. was the principal speaker at the City Club forum yesterday, dis- oussing the means used in develop- ing the beautiful region of the Ozarks into a playground for thousands of tourists vearly. He described the beautles and at-|{jam F. Nelson, $10; Charles E. Me-| tractions of the region, and told of the organization of commerce and business into an advertising medium for fifty-three towns in fourteen counties, for the purpose of making the region attractive to the rest of the country. The first year of such advertising. Representative Manlove said, brought 100,000 visitors, with $5,000,000 to spend, into the Ozarks: the sécond brought 150,000, and last year brought more than 200,000 visi- tors, into the “land of a million smiles.” Mr. Manlove pointed to the edver- tising being done by the city of Lo Angeles, which, he said, was spend ing $300.000 annually to bring tour- ists and millions of dollars into the city. A few years ago, he said, Cal- ifornia_was being depopulated and then the advertising campaign for California was started. The speaker congratulated members of the City Club on what they were doing as “builders” of the city of citizenship and of co-operative effort. —_— ASKS ABSOLUTE DIVORCE. Mrs. A. M.
