Jluu. the peak month, MONEY TOC LOAN AND IN DEMAND BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. By Special Leased Wire to The Star. NEW YORK, October 2.—Bond quo- tations were generally higher today. Apparently the same influences which affected stocks governed bonds. Trading was on a smal scale. Buy- ing was partly speculatNe in origin and partly from deglers who seemed to have more confidence. The very high-grade issues were neglected. Prices were fairly steady around re- cent levels, but there was no tendency to advance. Uncertainty as to the fu- ture of the money market still pre- vailed. AS was to have been expected for- eign issues made the most substan- tial gain: Both the French Ti%s and the ench 8Ts went higher but at today's pricve the 85 were still more elght points below the high of th. year, and the 7%s selli; today around 96% compared with a high for the year of 106. The French citles’ {ssu sharp gain and the Seine at 87 were up 114 points. United kingdom 5%s of 1937 went above 102. The Belglan and the Dutch East Indies were stronger. Of course, all this was in response to more cheerful ad- vices as to the situation in the near east. Liberties sold at higher prices to- day than on Saturday, but the gains were not large.
