An increase of 201 in the Ssmber of persons sent to the Washington /| Asylum Hospital for mental observa- tion during the last fiscal year is showh by the annual report of Dr. D. Percy Hickling, Districy allenist. The total number examined was 1,415 Of these cases 368 were discharged to St. Ellzabeth’s Hospital; thirteen to the police department; fifty-eight to the jall, twenty to the board of charities; six to private institutions; seventy-eght in the care of relatives, and one to Walter Reed Hospital. At St. Elizabeth's Hospital 460 pa- tients were examined prior to their| appearance in courl.. Of that number 374 were found by the jury to be insane, nineteen were found sane and thirty-four were discharged for va-| * ribus reasons.
