Little Change in New York Prices. ~ Trading Inactive. NEW YORK, July 15 (Special).— The dry goods market wound up a rather ull week with inactive trading and little change in_ prices for the greater number of con- structions. Prices were maintained and the amount of goods in second hands ap- pears to have been diminished. There were indications, however, of better vol- ume of business in the standard print cloths and sheetings next week, accord- ing to the inquiries in circulation. Sheet- ings were in fair demand and some business was recorded in pajama checks and sateens. ‘The raw silk market was quiet. So far the betterment in demand for fin- ished goods has not produced increased buying of the raw product by the man- ufacturers. D — TREASURY CERTIFICATES. (Quotatinns furnished by Redmond & Co.) Slightly longer vamps and more pointed toes are the fall style indica- tions in women's shoes now being offered by manufacturers. Colonials appear to have strong support, wiih kid leather as a popular material in producing them. This style of shoe is expected to increase use of orna- ments. The flat and one-inch heel appears to be passing out in favor of the Louis and Cuban designs of two inches and slightly less. Russian boots have some sponsors and the longer skirts for fall will doubtless help demand for the style. A novelty to take the place of last vear's over- shoes, widely worn by flappers, con- sists of radio boots. These are a combination of Russian boots and rubber boots with a strip of fur on | the top. SPEED GERMAN SHIPMENTS. Importers and others who ha made recent purchases of merchan- dise in Germany are now attempting to obtain quicker deliveries than were first specified, because of the greatly unsettied condition prevailing in Ge man politics and finance, says a New York dealer. Prices have been ad- vanced by German manufacturers re- cently, and this has led to a consider- able cancellation of orders by Amer- ican buyers. On orders that still stand, however, the American buyers feel that the best course is to get the goods shipped out of Germany as speedily as possible, according to im- porters here. e WALL STREET NOTES. Bond issues to finance rail construe- tion in Colombia are expected in this market shortly. Selling came into this group at tim nd caused some sharp reac- tion, with the high-priced issues the leaders. Rallles from the lowest ‘were caused by short covering. Floor traders continued the active sellers. Standard Oil of Indiana, Standard Oil of New York, Standard Oil of Kentucky, Anglo-American and In- ternational Petroleum continued to decline. The independent oils also were lower, Cities Service declining over four points and fractional losses were recorded in Skelly, Mutual and Salt Creek. Omar was one of the exceptions holding comparatively firm. Miscellaneous issues were less af- fected by the easiness in oils than recently and many of these held firm. Radio Strong. Radio common was in good demand and Dubilier Radio also was well taken. Gillette Safety Razor was higher and a good advance was re- corded in Goodyear. Goldwyn Pic- tures was steady and there was a moderate demand for some of the motors, notably Durant, Lincoin and Packard. Mining shares were fairly active and steady. Lone Star Consolidated wag one of the active features fol- lowing the announcement that op- erations had been resumed on the California holdings of the company, and important developments are looked for by officials. Ray Hercules continued active and firm. Although there were no features in the bond dealings, the list held steady and trading was moderately active. LITTLE WOOL CHANGE. Seasonal Slump in Boston Market Marks Week End. BOSTON, July 15 (Special).—The seasonal slump which has hit the wool market showed no change to- day. Prices, however, showed little variation and the tone was distinctly firm in certain grades. The foreign markets were reported to exhibit strength, but little buying for Amer- ican account was in evidence. A num- ber of clips have been cleaned up in the west this week, especially in the Dakotas and Callfornia, at prices un- der the top for the season. The opening if the spring lines of the American Woolen Company Monday is expected to stimulate mill pur- chases. ADVISES EARLY ORDERS. Deliveries are likely to be a ques- tion of moment in the women's ready-to-wear trade once the manu- facturing for fall gets under full headway, says a trader. Not much trouble is expected from the stand- point of labor disturbances, although a general withdrawal of workers aimed at stamping out the “social] shops” is likely to Interfere with production plans, even in those fac- tories where the employes are absent only a few - days. Another factor, however, that is not being overlook- ed is In getting prompt shipments of materials. The growing demand for dress goods is apt to find the mills rather disorganized, because they have not been operating on full schedules. Garment manufacturers are endeavoring to foresee all con- tingencies, but some of them are now advising their customers to place early orders so that there may be no future cause for complaint.
