CHICAGO, July 12.—Apprehension over continued rains delaying harvest led to fresh upturns in the price of wheat today during the early transactions. At first, however. the market was bearishly affected by talk of a better outlook for settlement of the railroad strike. The subses quent rallies derived some of their fmpetus from reports of some dam- age by black rust in Minnesota. The opening, which varled from un- changed figures to % lower, with Sep- tember 1.14 to 1.14% and December 1.15% to 1.16, was followed by a rise around to above yesterday's finish. Corn and oats displayed independ- ent firmness owing to gossip that exporters were after corn.. Initial prices for corn, ranging from 3 de- cline to 3 advance, with support at 64% to 64%. were soon succeeded by moderate general gains. Oats started 14 to % off, September 37% to 37%, and later scored up- turns. Higher quotations on hogs gave a 1ift in provision values. Seemingly increased prospect of a rail strike settlement did a good deal to turn wheat. downward in price today throughout the last half of the board of trade session. Profit-taking sales and | |slowness of export demand were col tributing bearish factors.
